Privacy Policy

This policy covers Voilà — Sound Companion for iOS. Voilà works without an account, without analytics, and without any server of our own. The only place your data leaves the device is the speech-recognition service that powers transcription and translation, Soniox. This policy explains exactly what is collected, how it is collected, everything it is used for, and how it is shared with Soniox.

What data Voilà collects, and how

Microphone audio. When you start a meeting, translation, or listening session, Voilà accesses your microphone (with your iOS permission) and streams the audio in real time to Soniox over an encrypted connection so it can be turned into text. The audio goes directly from your device to Soniox — it never passes through, and is never stored by, any server operated by us. Along with the audio, each session sends the settings needed to transcribe it: your chosen language / translation settings, and, only if you choose to enter it, optional free-text context (such as names or domain terms) that improves recognition accuracy.

Meeting recordings. A meeting session also keeps a copy of its audio recording on your device. If you choose to re-run a meeting for more accurate speaker separation or translation, that recording file is uploaded to Soniox over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to be re-processed. This upload happens only when you trigger it; recordings are never uploaded anywhere else.

Transcripts and translations. The text produced by a session — meeting notes, translated conversation, and any speaker labels you assign — is saved only on your device, in the app's local storage. It is never uploaded to us or to any account, because Voilà has no account system and no cloud sync.

Your Soniox API key. Voilà uses your own Soniox API key to connect. It is stored in your device's Keychain, protected by iOS, and is sent only to Soniox to authenticate your sessions. We never see it or receive it.

Sharing with a third party (Soniox)

Transcription and translation are performed by Soniox, Inc., a third-party voice-AI provider. This is the only third party any of your data is shared with.

• What is sent. Your live microphone audio; the language and translation settings for the session; any optional free-text context you enter; and, only if you choose to re-process a meeting, that meeting's recorded audio file.
• How it is sent. Directly from your device to Soniox once you start a session — real-time audio over an encrypted WebSocket (TLS) connection, and re-processing uploads over an encrypted HTTPS connection, both authenticated with your own Soniox API key. Nothing is routed through a server operated by us. Depending on the region you select in Settings, your data is processed in Soniox's United States, European Union, or Japan region.
• What it is used for. Solely to convert your speech into text and, where enabled, to translate it — in real time, and again if you re-process a recording. It is not used by Voilà for any other purpose.
• Soniox's protection of your data. Soniox processes this data under its own privacy policy, which provides comparable protections. Please review Soniox's Privacy Policy for details on how it handles and retains data.

Your controls and consent

• Audio is sent to Soniox only after you start a session. If you do not agree to this processing, simply do not start a session — no audio is sent.
• Re-processing a recording is optional and only ever uploads audio when you choose to run it.
• Recordings and transcripts stay on your device and can be deleted by you at any time (see below).

What Voilà does not do

• No account or sign-in of any kind.
• No analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
• No tracking across apps or websites, and no data used to build an advertising profile.
• No sale or sharing of personal data with third parties, other than the data sent directly to Soniox to perform transcription/translation as described above.

Data retention and deletion

Records and recordings stay on your device until you delete them. You can remove any individual record by swiping to delete it in the History tab, or remove everything at once by deleting the app. Data sent to Soniox is retained according to Soniox's Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy

Voilà is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
