Do I need an internet connection?
Cloud engines (Soniox, ElevenLabs, Volcengine, Groq) need one. Apple Speech runs on your Mac and works offline.
Is my audio stored anywhere?
No. Audio streams straight from your Mac to the engine you choose and is never saved by Voilà. With Apple Speech it never leaves your Mac.
Which languages can I dictate in?
Any language your engine supports. Mixed-language dictation is tuned for English, Chinese and French, and Soniox handles Japanese, Korean and dozens more.
Does it work in Terminal and code editors?
Yes. Voilà pastes reliably into Terminal, iTerm2, Ghostty, Warp, WezTerm, kitty, VS Code, Xcode and AI coding tools that redraw the screen.
Do I need an API key?
For cloud engines, yes — Voilà connects directly with your own key, so you pay the provider’s rates with nothing added. Apple Speech needs no key.
What happens after the 30-day trial?
Buy a license once to keep the Pro features. Without one, dictation with on-device Apple Speech keeps working for free.
Is it a subscription?
